Online International Professional Development Program for High School Math Teachers (Facilitated Course)
Time limit: 42 days
Full program description
This facilitated course invites secondary mathematics teachers to participate in an innovative form of online professional learning, called StoryCircles. In StoryCircles, teachers engage in anticipating how a mathematics lesson will unfold, visualizing those possible unfoldings of the lesson as represented in storyboards. The teachers collectively envision the lesson by:
- Scripting dialogue or actions the teacher or students could make within the context of the lesson
- Visualizing aspects of the lesson in the form of storyboards
- Arguing about the various decisions a teacher might make across the timeline of the lesson
Teachers will have a chance to learn from each others' knowledge and experience through the collective development of a mathematics lesson - using an online storyboarding and annotation tools to envision alternative ways the lesson could go. The project will bring together secondary mathematics teachers around the globe (United States, Canada, India, Bulgaria, South Africa, and the Philippines) to engage in international exchange on representations of lessons.
Qualifications to participate in this course:
- Experience as a secondary mathematics teacher familiar with teaching algebra or geometry content.
- Desire to collaborate with others in an innovative environment to develop and refine a storyboarded lesson representing various ways one can implement a problems-based lesson
If you are interested in this opportunity, please fill out this form by 30 September, 2024. Participants of this course are eligible to receive monetary incentives.
